About Andover
Named after Andover, England, Andover Massachusetts was first settled in 1636. It was originally named after Lake Cochichawicke and encompassed a much larger area. Originally, Andover's ecomomic base was centered around farming and then quickly became a manufacturing center. In 1775 the regions first powder mill was built in Ballardvale. There were many textile manufacturing plants in the late 1800's which no longer exist. Andover still remains a center for some large companies. Andover is also well known for their elite private school Phillips Academy. Today Andover is a bedroom community offering easy access to routes 93/95/495 with close proximity to Boston. You can still find some of Andover's great victorians in the downtown area. Great schools and quality of life housing make Andover a popular choice.
