   About Tewksbury MA 

Named after Tewkesbury, England, Tewksbury Massachusetts was first settled in 1637.  Originally part of Billerica, Tewksbury became incorporated in 1734.  Originally Tewksbury's economic base was centered around farming and lumbering with it's first sawmill built on Trull Brook in 1736.  In 1854 the state built a poorhouse or almshouse that housed almost 1000 inmates.  The Tewksbury Almshouse was the home of Anne Sullivan who later worked with Helen Keller.   The almshouse now houses the Public Health Museum at the  Old administration building of theTewksbury Hospital.  At the turn of the 20th century Tewksbury was known as the Carnation Town due to its many greenhouses.

Today, Tewksbury is bedroom community offering easy access to routes 93/95/495 with close proximity to Boston.  Good schools and affordable homes for sale make Tewksbury a popular choice.

Location: Northeast Massachusetts, bordered by Lowell to the west, Dracut to the north, Andover to the northeast, with Wilmington on the south east and Billerica to the south.  21 miles to Boston.
